About Me

My Past

I am originally from Hamilton, Ontario. I am the oldest child of four from a family of modest means.

Growing up, my start in school was a difficult one. From Gr. 1—3, ‘C’s & ‘D’s’ were not unfamiliar to me. School was stressful and disheartening. It was not until Gr.4 where I developed confidence in myself because of two great teachers who saw my potential and aligned a learning environment with my style of learning. I became a straight ‘A’ student that year.

My last year of high school was completed at Montcalm Secondary School and I was then accepted into King’s University College at Western where I acquired my Bachelor’s of Psychology. I later attended school in the United States and achieved a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counselling working with children, teens and young adults during that time.

Over the years, I have been a voice and advocate for different communities. From my role as Student Council Vice President at King’s, to volunteering as a phone volunteer with the London Distress Centre, to working with marginalized populations through my counselling internship in St. Thomas, Ontario.

I have continued my advocacy work as a member of the King’s University College Employee Negotiations Team, and as a Director on the Carriage Park Estate Condominium Board for 7+ years during that time serving one year as Vice-President and one year as President.

My preparation for the role

In recent years, I have prepared myself for the role of School Board Trustee by taking on a number of leadership positions in the community:

  • Community representative of the Supervised Alternative Learning Committee with the TVDSB.
  • Served as director and Past Vice Chair of the Block Parents
  • Currently serving as Vice Chair of the Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Oppression Advisory Committee with the City of London.
  • Conducting co-facilitated Sexual Violence Intervention Training for King’s University College Student Leaders.

Other leadership roles

  • Past President, Vice President & Director at Large with Carriage Park Estates Condo Board
  • King’s College Employee Negotiations Team Member
  • King’s University College Student Council Vice-President

My present

Currently, I work for King’s University College as an Assistant Residence Manager where I ensure that our first-year residence students complete their first year successfully by coordinating a number of initiatives from providing mental health and wellness support, to encouraging academic and social participation in their King’s experience.

In addition to these past and present pursuits, I am the very proud father of an eight-year-old daughter who brightens everyone’s day with her smile!

I have a vested interest in seeing all children succeed. I understand a parent’s concerns regarding their children’s education, their future success and ultimately our city’s future.

I am not a politician. I am a person who cares about our community and my commitment to it begins and ends with serving as your Trustee to positively influence the direction of the education system that will develop our leaders of tomorrow.

In this election, Wards 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 must pick two new representatives to serve you on the Thames Valley School Board of Trustees.

I ask for your support to represent you.

Sincerely,

Leroy(he/him/his)
